The Flag

Historic Bear Flag raised at Sonomaon June 14, 1846, by a group of American settlers in revolt against Mexican rule. The star imitated the lone star of Texas. A grizzly bear represented the many bears seen in the state. The word, "California Republic" was placed beneath the star and bear. California State Flag since 1911.

Landing on LAX - the International Airport of Los Angeles -, collecting the car and on our way to the South. Stop at the Warner Brothers Studios en further South to San Diego for a visit of the world famous Zoo.

On our return journey, as the icing on the cake, an unexpected visit to the Yanks Air Museum.

Los Angeles is the biggest city in the state of California, and was founded on September 4th, 1781. In 1821 the colony became part of Mexico; 27 years later, the city - after the Mexican-American war - was taken over by the Americans. Los Angeles, or more accurately Hollywood, is the center of the American movie and television industry.

Me being a sucker for Zoos and San Diego having one of the most famous Zoos in  the world, warrented a visit. For. the Homo Sapiens a wonderfully designed area on a hill side with all elevation differences and views that go with it. For all other spieces less of a success as the animal dens are very limited in size. According to me, the Dutch Zoos are taking care of their animals far better in this respect. San Diego Zoo does not have any themes such as a butterfly garden or similar. Just too many animals confided in  a small space.

By coincidence we run into a wonderfully well maintained air museum in Chino on our way back to Los Angeles. We are highly impressed by the amount of still flying items.

We visited the Warner Brothers Studios where nowadays 80% of the earnings are secured by tv-series (ER, Friends, the Mentalist), but also movies such as Harry Potter, Batman and Driving Miss Daisy were created here.

Furthermore we now know what a Kamikaze plane looks like........ very cheap layout without any unnecessary parts such as landing gear for which there was no use anyhow. For ease of use it is placed on a separate movable undercarriage.
