Philae Temple

Philae used to be an island in the Nile close to Aswan hosting an Ancient-Egyptian temple complex dedicated to the vertility goddess Isis. When the Aswan Low Dam was constructed, a third of the temple complex was constantly submerged with the water washing away the colors of the temples' reliefs. It would totally submerge with the built of the High Dam. UNESCO rescued the Temples of Philae from destruction by cutting the entire temple complex in pieces and reconstructing it on the more elevated island Agilkia. It is labelled a World Heritage Site together with the two temples of Abu Simbel.
